Antony Girlando was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and was educated in a multicultural and multilingual environment. He is fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish, and has studied Russian. He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in finance and his doctorate in international management.
His early research focused on cultural change and, in particular, on Russians鈥 assimilation of U.S. values following the collapse of the former Soviet Union. He found that cultural values, for the most part, are permanent. His more recent cross-cultural research on Russians and Italians has come to the same conclusion.
Professor Girlando has been published in the聽Journal of Transnational Management聽and the聽Journal of East West Business. His studies have been used by researchers from Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Australia, and England. Locally, he has consulted on culture for Sappi, Ltd., and the Maine International Trade Center. He has almost four decades of experience with technology in the academic world. His current projects are centered on researching how new information technologies can be best utilized in higher education. He is currently experimenting with the use of iPads, the 鈥渇lipped classroom鈥 model, and various business simulations. His goals are to help students think globally and to make their learning experience more practical and interesting. Previously, he worked for American Express Latin American Division and owned part of small manufacturing firm in Chile.
