What the heck is HyFlex?

This week, Chief Learning Officer Michael Pardales offers us a first look at the ways we鈥檒l make classroom learning safe and healthy this fall at Saint Joseph鈥檚 College. Michael joins us from one of our newly upgraded classrooms, where the latest technology has been installed to provide hybrid-flexible learning, or 鈥淗yFlex,鈥 to all campus students.

So what is HyFlex? This model combines in-person instruction inside the classroom with both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (non-real-time) instruction outside the classroom. It uses digital and other formats to allow students to fully participate in the learning experience whether they are physically present or not.

HyFlex helps us implement social distancing requirements, and assists those students who have special circumstances and need to attend class remotely. Classes that exceed a classroom鈥檚 capacity for social distancing can be split into groups that switch between in-person and alternative learning. While it offers more options, HyFlex does not mean that students can choose when to come to class. A professor鈥檚 syllabus and attendance policy will still determine the expectations of the course.

Michael also gives us a preview of the new disinfecting technology that our Facilities Management team will deploy in all classrooms on a daily basis, as well as some cleaning habits that will become part of our everyday routines around campus this year.

Keep your eyes peeled for more reopening information next week. And if you don鈥檛 already, make sure to follow us on and , where we鈥檙e always sharing the latest news and the best of 色虎视频.
