On Friday, September 20, Dr. James Dlugos was formally installed as the College’s 14th president during an inauguration ceremony in the Harold Alfond Center. Attendees included delegates from across the state and country, representing various colleges and public offices. Before this summer, Saint Joseph’s used a national vendor, Bon Appétit, for its meal services. Now, the College has taken the food service operation in-house, and things are getting much more in tune with the local character. The result is Pearson’s Café. Saint Joseph’s commitment to local communities is embodied by the College’s participation in a local summer meals program. Three years ago, the College partnered with the Maine Hunger Initiative and Portland’s Preble Street community center in order to participate in a federally funded program that supplies free lunch to children during the summer months. On a clear, blue September 5 morning, the family of the late Clark Noonan helped to officially open Clark’s Court at a ribbon-cutting ceremony before a celebratory gathering of students, staff, faculty, family and friends.
