This spring, we're bringing you an alternative way to boost your GPA, earn more Saint Joe's credits, and spend less. Following Commencement, 色虎视频 will offer seven Maymester courses, all online, in a six-week intensive format. Each course will feature one synchronous session and two asynchronous discussions per week, as well as other assessments determined by each instructor. And we're making Maymester more cost-effective than ever鈥攕ign up now for just $150 per credit hour (about $600 per course!).

Registration opens up on April 7, 2025. Complete this and submit payment. Non-色虎视频 students will need to submit a transcript from their current institution that includes their Fall 2024 grades.听Courses run from May 12 to June 22, 2025. Get in early to secure your spot.

Courses

We're excited to offer the following 3 and 4 credit courses:

(3 credits) Haley Nannig

This course will introduce students to the creative process and develop their creativity through self-expression. This is a hands-on course. Each week students will deepen their understanding of art and design, learn new techniques, create original art, and complete self-reflections. The course is designed for students of all levels and backgrounds looking to grow their creative tool kit and have fun learning about art.

(4 Credits) Rick Dodge

This 4-credit course designed to introduce students to the knowledge and skills required in the practice of real estate. The scope of this course extends beyond real estate law. The building- block structure is designed to guide students through each component in the context of real-world situations.

The course introduces the reader to the basics of real property law and then proceeds step by step through all the areas of a modern real estate practice. The course is designed for national use and tries to present the general concepts of real property law that are applied in most of the 50 states, although the text is not state-specific.

(4 Credits) John Kenneally

The digital marketing course will combine the creative and technical aspects of running digital marketing campaigns. The focus will be on developing practical skills for developing an aligned approach to the digital presence of organizations. This includes website development and SEO, pay-per-click advertising on varied platforms, social media marketing, integrating analytics into campaigns, visual creative platforms, content marketing for targeted audiences, and budgetary considerations for digital campaigns. Students will learn how to use these tools to increase engagement and activation of targeted customers.

(3 credits) Wendy Galgan

Once considered 鈥渕erely鈥� a pop culture author, Stephen King has come to be recognized as one of his generation鈥檚 best storytellers. This course takes an in-depth approach to King鈥檚 work through an examination of some of his most-famous stories and essays, as well as films adapted from his works, with a particular focus on ethical and moral issues addressed by the author.

(4 Credits) Jake Thibault

An examination of classical and contemporary theories concerning the nature of the moral self. Attention will focus on the issues of moral motivation and development. Topics to be discussed will include the role of emotions, appeals to self-interest, the place of impartiality, the assignment of responsibility, and the relation of ethical, social, and political systems to certain conceptions of the moral self.

(4 credits) Susan Mangan

Come join us for Psychology in Film this Maymester! In this course students in the class will vote on the topics within psychology they're most interested in learning about, and we'll explore those through the treasured artform of film. We'll select films that allow us to explore psychological ideas in depth, such as: What are some of the consequences and/or benefits of being moral in our current society? (positive psychology); What does the life of someone with schizophrenia really look like? (clinical psychology); How does our childhood really impact our adult lives? How can we make the most of our trauma? (developmental psychology). Come to explore psychological concepts and learn more about the wonder of making movies!

(4 credits) Steven Bridge

As its title suggests, this course is designed to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of Catholic Social Teachings. (Catholic social teachings are a set of ideals, informed by love, that guide how we should live our lives and engage with society.) The Maymester version of this course will lean heavily on experiential learning. In other words, students won鈥檛 simply learn about these principles but will be challenged to put them into听practice. Students will design and implement their own practicum experiences focused on 1)听Respect for life and human dignity, 2) Outreach to the poor and vulnerable, and 3) Care for听creation. The hope is that, by putting such love into action, each student will make a positive,听concrete difference in our world.

Registration opens up on April 7, 2025. The Maymester Registration Form link will be active on that date. Complete the form and submit payment. Non-色虎视频 students will need to submit a transcript from their current institution that includes their Fall 2024 grades.

The reduced tuition rate for these courses will be $150.00 per credit hour.

For both high school and non-色虎视频 students taking the courses for credit, a transcript is required and can be sent electronically to registrar@sjcme.edu.

Each course description includes the number of credits for the course.

Yes, of course! However, we do suggest taking only two courses because of the intensive six week format.

The intensive six-week format will require learners to be actively participating in at least two (2) asynchronous discussions as well as one weekly, one-hour synchronous lecture/discussion. Learners should expect weekly assignments or other assessments. For more detail, please contact the professor of record for each course.

Learners should expect to be actively involved at least four days during the week. This does not include time devoted to reading and reviewing learning materials assigned.

Yes, of course. However, it is always best to contact the professor of record to discuss expectations.

Courses will be capped at 30 learners who are seeking credit. Those seeking to audit the course can be added beyond this.
