In October, Saint Joseph鈥檚 College celebrated the grand opening of Baggot Street鈥攁 spacious new caf茅 and gathering spot in the Heffernan Center. Named for the Dublin location where Catherine McAuley founded the first House of Mercy in 1827, the caf茅 embodies the spirit of inclusiveness, hospitality, and respect. In the words of Sister Sylvia Comer, who spoke at the opening, 鈥淏aggot Street is a sign of our Mercy heritage for years to come.鈥

Stuart Leckie, manager of Pearson鈥檚 Caf茅 and senior director of sustainable enterprises at the College, thinks the new dining option is fantastic. 鈥淭he kids will be excited for a trendy gathering place on campus,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t has its own identity. It鈥檚 not the Chalet. It鈥檚 not the Mercy Market. It鈥檚 Baggot Street.鈥

鈥淭he setting is truly unique,鈥 said Lauren Sharples 鈥17. 鈥淚 think it will bring the community closer together and make students feel like they have a place where they can always go.鈥
