The Saint Joseph鈥檚 College Department of Theology is returning to Italy July 8-15, 2018! Students can sign up for the course Spiritual Journey through聽Rome (TH 527/TH 309/TH 35) with Dr. Patricia Ireland and special lecturer Dr. Donna Orsuto for either three undergraduate or three graduate credits.
In this travel course, students will explore firsthand the spiritual treasure of聽Rome聽through the centuries by visiting pivotal sites inside and outside of聽the city, holy places that hold special meaning for Catholic pilgrims and scholars. The program will include daily visits to churches and other holy sites, lectures, dialogue, theological reflections, and daily Mass.
The cost of $2,280 covers the following expenses: course tuition, three meals a day, and entrance fees and transportation to all sites, including a day trip by private coach to the Benedictine Monastery at Subiaco, a place of monumental significance in the spiritual life of the Church鈥攚ith spectacular views. Students are responsible for their airfare and transportation to and from the聽, which is in the heart of聽Rome and across from the Coliseum. The Lay Centre will help coordinate transportation from the airport. There is room for a limited number of auditors at $1,980.
Saint Joseph鈥檚 College will also offer three graduate credits for students who enroll in the travel course Economy of Desire (TH 527) and participate in the Instituto de Filosofia Edith Stein (IFES) Summer School and Conference in Granada, Spain, June 17-25, 2018. Students register with Saint Joseph鈥檚 College for tuition ($400) and register directly with IFES for all conference expenses (travel expenses are not included).
Led by Dr. Aaron Riches, this summer experience will address late capitalist and secular culture consumerism that dominates the sense of self, society, and community, while examining the question of the deeper theological relation of economy and desire. For five years the IFES summer school has facilitated a rich and friendly theological, philosophical, and cultural dialogue in the unique setting of Granada, a breathtakingly beautiful city that lies at the historic crossroads of modernity and the Christian tradition.聽.
